Message from the President
Colleges of Technology (KOSEN) are higher education institutions that accept 15-year-old talented students after junior high school, and nurture engineers with advanced expertise through a 5-year integrated education. There are 57 (national, public, and private) colleges nationwide (51 national colleges). The total number of students exceeds 50,000. There is no higher education institution in the world with such a scale and character.
Kitakyushu KOSEN was established in Kitakyushu City as a National College of Technology in 1965 and has sent many excellent graduates to the world under the philosophy of "cultivating engineers who create a bright future". And many seniors are active on the front lines of the industries. As you know, Kitakyushu City is a region that has driven the economic growth of modern Japan as a "Kitakyushu Industrial Zone". In this traditional industrial area, we have been actively and sustainably promoting cross-sectoral collaboration with local governments, local companies, and universities as well. On the other hand, the industrial structure has changed dramatically over the past 50 years. In order to respond to these changes in industrial structure, and enhance fundamental engineering capabilities, in 2015, we reorganized the five departments into one department, "Department of Production Design Engineering," which is comprised of five courses.
One of the characteristics of KOSEN education is wedge-type education. By placing general and specialized subjects in a wedge-shaped manner and gradually increasing the number of specialized engineering education programs from the first year, students will acquire engineering mindset and literacy without difficulty. The second marked characteristic is "Emphasis on experiments and practical training," in order to balance theory and practice without overemphasizing knowledge. In addition, all the KOSEN set up the same "model core curriculum" as the students’ educational goal. The curriculum, as a common educational denominator for all National Colleges of Technology in Japan, guarantees all the KOSEN students’ minimum but essential core level of competency. I believe that the students of Kitakyushu KOSEN will be able to firmly improve themselves in Shii campus and practice "身近而志遠" (venture with ambitions).

Our Three Policy of Education
The National Institute of Technology, Kitakyushu College (NITKIT), through a distinctive educational curriculum that exposes students to technology early on through experiments, practical training, and skills, teaches scientific knowledge to students with a heightened interest in technology, and then provides them with an understanding of advanced technology, fosters practical and creative engineers who have acquired the basic technology, liberal arts, and lifelong learning skills necessary for future success in manufacturing and various other fields, as follows.
Based on the educational philosophy and educational objectives, the following educational curriculum is organized inorder for students to acquire the knowledge, abilities, and dispositions set forth in the Diploma Policy and the Learning and Educational Achievement Goals. In accordance with the syllabus specified for each class subject, the results of study are evaluated and the prescribed credits are awarded. In principle, the results of midterm and final examinations, as well as reports and quizzes, are evaluated based on a comprehensive evaluation.
