2025年10月2日から12月22日まで、シンガポールのナンヤン・ポリテクニックから短期留 学生1名を受け入れました。この期間中、留学生は幾つかの研究室で課題に取り組みなが ら、教員や学生と積極的に交流を深めました。また、学内の国際交流イベント International Café & ICP (International Communication Platform）にも参加し、本校 在学中の他の留学生たちとも交流し、多様な文化に触れる機会を楽しんでいました。本校 の学生たちも、留学生との交流を通して他の国の価値観や考え方を知る貴重な機会とな り、お互いに新しい視点を得ることができた模様です。

以下に、久池井研究室に所属した 留学生の体験談『文化交流』の部分を和訳してご紹介します。

【About My Project】

Coming from Nanyang Polytechnic, I worked under Professor Shigeru Kuchii. I was tasked with researching and developing the Computer Vision and Motor Control parts of an underwater wall-climbing robot. This was challenging as it required me to utilize deep learning as well as advanced control theories. I made use of ResNet and YOLO to build a system that can detect and then classify structural defects on glass surfaces. On the other hand, I changed the system I used at first was a reactive PID controller and changed to a Model Predictive Controller (MPC). Tuning both was difficult, especially the MPC due to the curved paths needed, but overcoming these obstacles in my Simscape Multibody simulation helped me showcase that the MPC was superior in terms of tracking accuracy and power utilization. This project really polished my skills in Python, linear algebra, and simulations, helping me prove that adaptability is crucial for technical knowledge in engineering. 【Cultural Exchange】 The three months that I’ve been at Kosen have been a good change of pace as I needed to learn about independence and adapting to different cultures. Having to live alone in a foreign country made me step out of my comfort zone. I had to figure out everything on my own, from reading Japanese train maps to managing my daily budget. A highlight of my internship was the environment in the lab and dorm. Interacting with local students like Yugo helped me along with my project; giving me ideas of what to do and what to add taught me to think from different perspectives. I had many instances where interacting with students in the dormitory gave me different views on parts of Japan I don’t normally get to see. During my free time after the lab, I was often going out and discovered places while exploring the local area. I want to give my thanks to the other international students for bringing me and the Temasek students to places and giving us experiences of Japan’s culture when they could have been studying, and to the local students for driving us to different areas we couldn't reach otherwise and hanging out and eating with us. On weekends, I would normally go out to Kokura city to walk around or go further by the JR train to places like Mojiko Retro or spots around Kyushu. It was an amazing experience to be here, and I really appreciate how Prof. Kuchii, the other professors, and the students made me feel welcome.

【文化交流】

高専で過ごしたこの3か月間は、私にとって良い意味での環境の変化となりました。自立することや、異なる文化に適応することを学ぶ必要があったからです。外国で 一人暮らしをすることで、自分の慣れ親しんだ環境から一歩踏み出すことになりました。日本の電車路線図を読むことから、日々の生活費の管理に至るまで、すべてを自分一人で考え、行動しなければなりませんでした。 　インターンシップの中でも特に印象に残っ ているのは、研究室や寮の環境です。向井さんのような現地の学生と交流することで、プロジェクトを進める上で多くの助けを得ることができました。何をすべきか、どのような 要素を加えるべきかといったアドバイスをもらい、異なる視点から考える力が身につきま した。また、寮で学生たちと交流する中で、普段はなかなか知ることのできない日本の一面に触れる機会も多くありました。研究室での活動が終わった後の自由時間には、よく外出して、周辺地域を探索しながらさまざまな場所に行きました。寮で出会った留学生たちは、私と、テマセク・ポリテクニックから来た留学生をいろいろな場所に連れて行って、 日本文化を体験させてくれました。留学生の皆さん、そして、車で行かなければ行けない場所へ連れて行ってくれ、一緒に出かけたり食事をしたりしてくれた現地の学生の皆さん に心から感謝しています。週末には、小倉駅周辺を散策したり、JRに乗って門司港レトロや九州各地のスポットまで足を延ばしたりしました。ここで過ごした時間は本当に素晴らしい経験でした。久地井先生をはじめ、他の先生方、そして学生の皆さんが温かく迎えてくださったことに深く感謝しています。
